At Jubilant Speech Therapy Singapore, our private speech therapist provides a range of assessment and speech therapy services for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. For adults, these difficulties generally arise from various medical conditions. These can include but are not limited to neurological diagnoses (e.g., stroke, traumatic brain injury, tumour), progressive conditions (e.g., Parkinson’s Disease, motor neuron diseases, dementia) and cancers (e.g., Head and Neck cancer). Depending on the structures, function and areas of the body affected, an individual may be impacted by one or more of these challenges:

• Aphasia: Language difficulties that can impact on understanding, speaking, reading, writing
• Cognitive-communication difficulties: Affects attention, memory, problem-solving, planning, judgement etc.
• Speech difficulties (e.g., dysarthria, apraxia of speech): Unclear speech due to weak oral motor muscles and/or discoordinated movements
• Dysphagia: Swallowing difficulties that affect one’s ability to consume food and drinks in an efficient and safe manner

A Speech Therapist will conduct a comprehensive assessment to evaluate your condition. This would include obtaining a thorough case history, reviewing past medical records and a clinical examination. Please note that you may be advised to consult other healthcare professionals to complete further evaluations and/or investigations to ensure holistic and targeted management of the conditions. Rehabilitation for adults is highly individualized in consideration of the clinical conditions, personal goals and long-term outcomes.
