Private Speech Therapy for children with stuttering

Stuttering is when the flow of speech is disrupted by
  • repetitions of sounds, syllables and/or words (e.g., “A buh-buh-butterfly”)
  • prolongations of sounds (e.g., “There is a sssssnake.”)
  • blocks (e.g., pauses)
For some children, stuttering may also be accompanied by extraneous movements like eye blinking.

Early Intervention is key!

Stuttering tends to emerge between the age of 2 to 5 years old in children. Although natural recovery can occur for some, it is not possible to predict who can recover without any treatment. Research has shown that early intervention through speech therapy is crucial as there is a higher chance of recovery if stuttering treatment for children is initiated before 6 years old.

Stuttering Therapy

There is a wide range of evidence-based speech therapy treatment approaches available across the lifespan for people who stutter. Choice of treatment through speech therapy is dependent on a multitude of factors, such as age, severity, how long an individual has been stuttering etc. Following a comprehensive evaluation, our Speech Therapist would be able to advise on the type of stuttering therapy program that would be most suitable for your needs.
